Shannon was born to a young coal miner and his wife. He was raised on a farm near Cleveland, Virginia. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1995.

He worked in many different fields, coal mining being one of them. Shannon always loved his Dad’s music and wanted to play guitar. He got his first guitar at age 8, but he had teach himself. At around age 16, he was given a Gibson Les Paul by his parents.

He was in a band in High School and played with Rodney Davidson, a current band mate in Coal Camp Revival. Shannon moved to Lebanon in 2003 and worked in engineering at Russell County Medical Center.

In February 2018, he reconnected with his High School band mate, Rodney Davidson and Started what is now known as Coal Camp Revival.
